Be Gawker Media
Have employees trying to organize a union
Try to hold open forums for employees in many locations
Some employees complain that the “open forums” aren’t open or even working
Realize the “open forums” are hosted on Kinja
Realize your efforts will be slayed by your own blogging platform

Is it too early to offer to be a scab?
I’m ready to scab.

You do realize that every time something get’s shared from here to a paid Gawker website, we are scabs?

but we don’t get paid. I’m under the impression that scabs get paid.

Does Gawker have the right to share and profit off of all kinja blogs? I assume so, didn’t read the fine print.

I’ve seen this before. Usually when I see things like this, I feel some sympathy for the person who gets hit by a puck/football/baseball/baseball bat/basketball.
But these two were at a professional game, where someone paid good money for their seats. And they were totally oblivious to the game that was happening 5 feet in front of them. I’m not a sports fan, like at all. But I’ve been to professional games before, and I WATCHED THE DAMN GAME.
Good on you, basketball, good on you.

This whole thing sounds like a shit show.
I’m cool with unions, but it looks like it’s being done for the sake of doing it. HamNo is beating the drum something awful. And the inability to have proper discussion in a timely manner before a vote reeks.
Unions had a place in history. I’m not sure they do any longer.

I’m just here to watch the show

Totally. It’s interesting seeing how it’s all coming out. I’d say part of making it public (or writing articles/having comment threads about it) is for page clicks. This all could turn out to be one big stunt rather than an actual unionization effort for proper representation.

You say “could turn out to be” when the correct word is “is”

I, for one, think this open forum thing is a greeeaaaatttt idea.

Sometimes I really underestimate things out of apprehension for how they’ll be received.
But yeah. Total PR stunt. It’s scummy.

I just read the terms and agreements, and yes they do. Not only that, but if we talk highly of a company’s product, that company can pay Gawker to promote that post.
